Tell Verizon: Stop Attacking the Middle Class Sign the Petition 45,000 Verizon workers are now on strike to stop the attack on the middle class. The reason? Despite record profits, Verizon is refusing to bargain and is demanding that its workers add to those profits from their own pockets. In the last four years alone, Verizon made more than $19 billion in profits and compensated their top five executives more than a quarter of a billion dollars. But apparently that’s not enough. Now they’re refusing to bargain. Starting on June 22 Verizon pushed proposals that would let them outsource more jobs, including sending jobs overseas, slash sick days, eliminate benefits for workers who get hurt on the job and cut the healthcare benefits they promised retirees. And they haven’t budged. That’s why 45,000 CWA and IBEW members walked out on Sunday August 7th to force Verizon to abandon its Wisconsin-style tactics and come to the bargaining table and negotiate. America has had enough of corporate greed. Now is the time for Verizon to do the right thing and come to the bargaining table in good faith instead of trying to kill the American dream for 45,000 middle-class workers. Send a letter now to tell Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam to stop Verizon’s attack on the middle class and share his company’s success with those who made it possible. Sign the Petition 4/19/07 Communication Workers of America, Local 9408 CWA attempts at the bargaining table to get better wages, working conditions and terms of employment for our members. But again and again, we see advances made at the bargaining table can be lost through action by Congress or state legislature. Every day Congress and state legislatures across the country make decisions that affect us-regarding telecommunications policy, taxes, social security, safety and health, the budget, pensions, our children's schools. Union members know that working families have the right to be heard in the American political process. Without their voice, there would be no employer-provided health care, no minimum wage, no overtime pay, no job safety protections, and no retirement or job security. That is why it is important for CWA members to get involved at every level of our union in the democratic process. We cannot be satisfied until every member exercises all the rights available to them to register, to meet and get to know the candidates personally, to do volunteer work in their campaigns, and to vote. We must help elect candidates to office that represents the concerns of CWA members and workers in general. And most important of all, we must encourage our members to register and vote. You can help by participating in Phone banking one or two evenings a week. Anyone can do it, a script and plenty of guidance is provided. Please call the union hall at 248-9408 to volunteer!
